Freevo представляет собой приложение для платформы Linux, которое превращает компьютер с TV тюнером и/или TV-выходом в автономную мультимедийную приставку к телевизору с возможностями проигрывателей jukebox/VCR/PVR/HTPC/DVR. Программа использует MPlayer и другие приложения для проигрывания и записи аудио и видео. Freevo оптимизирован для использования с телевизором и удаленно, но возможно использование с монитором и клавиатурой. Программа легко устанавливается, не требует компиляции и не имеет внешних зависимостей.

Вышла новая версия Freevo -- программы для управления медиаплейерами, телеприёмниками, платами видеозахвата, пультами дистанционного управления.
В числе изменений: веб-интерфейс, фоновое сжатие, работа с подкастами, поддержка новых устройств, определение и вырезание рекламы.
