Вышел первый предварительный релиз новой версии Samba — 3.0.20pre1.
После дискуссий разработчики решили пропустить релизы Samba с 3.0.15 до 3.0.19 и сразу представили 3.0.20pre1 (однако за 3.0.20 последует 3.0.21). Среди новых возможностей, появившихся в Samba 3.0.20pre1:
— новый асинхронный winbindd;
— поддержка Microsoft Print Migrator;
— новая библиотека ввода/вывода для файла реестра Windows NT;
— новое пользовательское право (SeTakeOwnershipPrivilege);
— новые опции «net share migrate».

Вышла ноавя версия Samb-ы! Samba - сервер, основанный на протоколе SMB (Server Message Block) и предоставляющий клиентам WinNT (и некоторых других ОС) возможность доступа к файлам и принтерам Linux (и прочих UN*X).

Технологическая версия Samba 4.0.0-TP1 (Technology Preview) доступна для тестирования (продукт еще находится на стадии pre-alpha).
Проект Samba 4 более трех лет развивался параллельно с Samba 3 и содержит почти полную переработку кода — в контексте реализации работы в качестве Active Directory Domain Controller и приведения поддерживаемого SMB-протокола к полной совместимости с продуктами Microsoft.
Кроме того, реализованы: встроенный LDAP-сервер, поддерживающий правила Active Directory; встроенный сервер Kerberos KDC (Key Distribution Center); собственный скриптовый язык написания сценариев ejs (на базе JavaScript); ACL в базе пользователей.

Samba 4 разрабатывается параллельно с Samba 3. В будущем Samba 4 может послужить надежной заменой М$ Active Directory Domain Controller, что позволит полностью вытеснить Windows не только из File- но и из Directory Service.

Новый релиз исправляет ряд уязвимостей. Одна из который критическая (CVE-2007-2447) - передача unescaped параметров в shell, позволяет удаленное выполнение команд.
