SUSE Linux 10.1 Alpha 1Первый альфа-релиз новой версии Linux-дистрибутива SUSE — SUSE Linux 10.1 Alpha1 (кодовое название «Auckland») — доступен для тестирования.
Среди главных изменений в SUSE Linux 10.1 Alpha 1 по сравнению с SUSE Linux 10.0:
° обновление графической среды KDE до версии 3.5 Beta1;
° обновление открытой реализации LDAP (openldap) до 2.3.7;
° переход на последнее стабильное Linux-ядро 2.6.13.2;
° YaST не устанавливает загрузчик (bootloader) в MBR;
° использование ifplugd (по умолчанию) для сетевых интерфейсов;
° множественные обновления пакетов и исправления в целях снижения числа выводимых при компиляции предупреждений;
° обновление пакетов pilot-link.

SUSE Linux 10.1 Beta 2Спустя всего лишь несколько дней после выхода первой бета-версии SUSE Linux 10.1 появился второй тестовый релиз. Разработчики дали ему кодовое название 'Agama Lizard'. В этой версии дистрибутива исправлено множество ошибок, но, как сообщают разработчики, далеко не все, о которых было сообщено пользователями, испытывающими Beta 1. Так, была исправлена работа с NetworkManager, до версии 3.5.1 обновлена оболочка KDE. Кроме этого, теперь система безопасности AppArmor 2.0 загружается по умолчанию.

OpenSuSe 10.2Вышел очередной релиз "открытой" ветки дистрибутива Novell.
В дистрибутив вошли:

OpenSuSE 10.3 alpha5I'm glad to announce openSUSE 10.3 Alpha5. The following are some highlights of Alpha5 compared to Alpha4: Linux kernel 2.6.22-rc4; reduced size and cleaned-up dependencies of some packages; glibc 2.6; Emacs 22.1; OpenOffice.org 2.2.1rc3; lots of package renames and splits to create smaller systems and allow a one-CD installation; two one-CD installation media: a GNOME CD and a KDE CD, both contain a small desktop; if openSUSE is installed from CDs, user is offered to bring up network connection in order to be able to install a remote add-on product together with openSUSE.

openSUSE 10.3-alpha7Alpha7 is ready, after 5 rebuilds we're happy to say it looks good enough for the public. Important changes since Alpha6: Linux kernel 2.6.22.1, GCC 4.2.1, libzypp 3.12.1; the package set of the CDs are heavily reshuffled and with it the patterns also affecting the DVD. After Alpha6 was more about testing the first integration of libzypp, Alpha7 is already 10 steps further in regards to libzypp. But we'd like to have your feedback on the refresh policy of yast/zypper.

openSUSE 10.3 "Live"From today the live edition of openSUSE 10.3 is available as a GNOME or KDE live CD. Both contain the same software as the 1-CD installation editions from the launch time. The live system can be used as a production system or as a rescue system. Or you can just check out how openSUSE 10.3 runs on your computer without touching your hard drive. The live CDs are available as 32-bit in English only and for the first time they contain an installation option on the desktop. Just click the icon and installation to your hard drive will start.

openSUSE 11.0 Alpha 0We'd like to kick start the development of openSUSE 11.0 with releasing the current state of Factory as Alpha0 release. Since the release of 10.3, we checked in 2,187 packages including such fundamental package updates as GCC 4.3.0, Linux kernel 2.6.24-rc4, X.Org 7.3, KDE 3.5.8 and 4.0 RC1, CUPS 1.3.4, ALSA 1.0.15, GIMP 2.4 and YaST 2.16. The change between 10.3 and Alpha0 is big, but it still works pretty nicely. So please join the openSUSE 11.0 development in downloading, testing and using Alpha0 or daily updated Factory distribution. So far there are some glitches in the installation process that are mostly harmless. But the new kernel in particular can cause some regressions we would love to hear about those through Bugzilla.

openSUSE 11.0 Alpha 1We kickstart a major development into the next version of openSUSE: openSUSE 11.0. A very early alpha version, Alpha 1, is now available for download and testing. Despite many other products being developed in parallel to Factory, we have seen a heavy stream of development on it, so it is really worth a try if you have time for testing. The main changes against Alpha 0 are: Sat Solver integration, Michael Schröder's 'sat solver' library is now the default package solver for libzypp; heavy changes to the appearance of the Qt installation (ported to Qt 4); KDE 4.0.0, Perl 5.10, glibc 2.7, NetworkManager 0.7, CUPS 1.3.5, Pulseaudio.

openSUSE 11.1-alpha1openSUSE 11.1 Alpha1 is available -- but beware, this is an Alpha with very rough edges! While testing this on a Thinkpad R51, the system didn't boot after first stage installation. We are still looking into this issue (#411937). In addition to that, the default GNOME installation will complain about a missing package (providing gnome-session-branding). With the current bootloader issue, using the DVDs for installing is not recommended, until we have a workaround. Please try the LiveCDs instead!
