Amarok (прежнее название — amaroK) — программа для проигрывания аудиофайлов для Linux и других Unix-подобных операционных систем, хотя ожидается что вторая версия Amarok будет работать и под другими операционными системами, в том числе и Windows. Для своей работы использует KDE (kdelibs), однако официально не входит ни в один из компонентов KDE и выпускается независимо от него. Несколько раз завоёвывал «награды» в качестве самого популярного аудиоплеера Linux-систем.

Несмотря на то, что Amarok использует изображения волка и имеет название, схожее с гигантским волком в Эскимосской мифологии (Amarok или Amarog), плеер был назван по альбому Amarok Майка Олдфилда. Первый логотип программы был сделан в виде волка, но он был очень похож на эмблему WaRP Graphics. Позднее логотип Amarok менялся несколько раз и теперь он не нарушает никакие авторские права.

Сначала плеер имел название amaroK с заглавной буквой «K», которую так любят разработчики KDE. В июне 2006 года он был переименован в Amarok после интенсивной дискуссии на конференции KDE, K3M, в мае того же года.

Второй бета-релиз новой версии открытого аудиоплейра для KDE — amaroK 1.3 beta2.
Среди изменений в amaroK 1.3 beta2:
— у нового движка Helix появилась поддержка визуализаций;
— добавлен менеджер очередей;
— улучшения в функциональности Smart Playlist;
— скрипты теперь могут добавлять элементы в контекстное меню плей-листа;
— у фильтра плей-листа расширена возможность поиска (введен синтаксис в стиле Google);
— оптимизации и многочисленные исправления.

Don't show the device plugin dialog when a new device is plugged in. Apparently it's not obvious that you have to hit OK after selecting "Do not handle" if you don't want it handled, so disabling it prevents it from being shown repeatedly.
Better support for iPhone/iPod Touch mounted via fuse/sshfs (libgpod 0.6.0 or newer required).
Only re-render the context view when visible if changing ratings, scores or labels for songs.

Pressing Previous Track in a Dynamic Playlist could cause undefined behavior in certain edge conditions. Now it always plays the current track. (BR 148317)
Immediately after loading a dynamic playlist, you couldn't drag a track to the top of the playlist. (BR 149263)
Fix transferring files with UTF8 names to MTP devices. Thanks to Kevin Becker
