ClamWin is a Free Antivirus for Microsoft Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/2003. It provides a graphical user interface to the Clam AntiVirus engine. It features a command line interface for scanning files, updating the virus definitions, and a daemon for faster scanning needed on high performance systems.

ClamWin Free Antivirus uses the GNU General Public License by the Free Software Foundation and is free (as in freedom) software. ClamAV For Windows is a completely free and open source anti-virus software package. ClamAV is an open source antivirus solution for UNIX/Linux operating systems. Unlike most antivirus products, ClamAV requires no yearly subscription fee, and is completely free with source code to anyone who wishes to use it. Because ClamAV is released under the GPL v2 license, you must follow all license requirements if you modify the ClamAV source code, or use it in your own projects.

На данный момент антивирусная база ClamWin Free Antivirus содержит около 30 тысяч записей. Данный антивирус обладает следующими функциями: сканирование системы по расписанию, автоматическое обновление антивирусных баз через глобальную сеть Интернет, уведомление об обнаружении программ-носителей вирусного кода. Этот продукт находится еще на ранней стадии своего развития, но, тем не менее, алгоритмы, используемые в программе, вполне могут сравниться с коммерческими аналогами. Данное антивирусное средство обладает достаточно неплохим набором настроек и понятным интерфейсом. ClamWin Free Antivirus дает достаточно хорошее впечатление альтернативной защиты, но на данный момент антивирус не обладает возможностью постоянного мониторинга системы.

ClamWin — абсолютно бесплатный антивирус, распространяемый на основе открытых исходных кодов. Обладает классическим для такого рода программ набором функций. Регулярно обновляемая (автоматически из сети) вирусная база программы содержит более 30.000 записей. Возможно, потенциал программы и ниже чем у дорогих коммерческих проектов, но при учете сравнительной молодости программы и полной бесплатности — весьма достойно.
