Дистрибутив Elive основан на Debian. В настоящее время Elive достиг версии 0.1, но активно тестируется и дорабатывается бета версия под номером 0.2. В основе системы будет находиться очень быстрый и красивый оконный менеджер Enlightenment.

В ELive также предусмотрена возможность установки на жесткий диск. По заявлениям разработчиков, данная версия будет работать даже на компьютере с частотой процессора 120 МГц и 64Мб оперативной памяти.

The Elive team is proud to announce the release of Elive development (Compiz) version 1.9.27. This is a major update for the Compiz series of Elive. Changes: instead of configuring Compiz from ECSM, you can now do it from a module; the cube is disabled by default due to its instability compared to the wall mode; not that the switcher (window switcher) of Compiz is ugly, but it's a bit annoying while the default switcher of E17 is a lot more powerful, configurable, and stable, so we use it as default now (it is still accessed by pressing the Win key plus the Tab key). Note: remember that these are the default configurations, you can change them to your taste!

Partitions - better detection and listing of the partitions for the live mode and the installer, if you encounter any problems, please report it; RAID - now the fake-hardware (featured by the motherboard BIOS) RAID disks are supported, a small help about RAID (software mode) is added to the installer describing how to install Elive on RAID devices; Macbooks - we have switched from LILO to GRUB, in the previous versions of Elive you saw that sometimes the system didn't boot anymore after running the fine-tune step because of some problems with LILO; Installer - the development is now all concentrated on the installer, with a large number of minor bug fixes and features.

The Elive team is proud to announce the release of Elive development version 1.9.42 (Compiz). New features in this release: 3g-dialer - if you want to connect to the Internet from your 3G/HDSPA modem, you can use the 3g-dialer (it even supports PIN code); Thunar - more features have been added, specially for images and audio files, using right-click with a mouse; SSH - using SSH will allow you to have direct access to Enlightenment remote features (if the remote user is also running E17); aMSN - new chat sessions won't open in separate windows; slamr - the bug seems to have been fixed; Linux kernel version 2.6.26.8 (revision 41).

В качестве Linux ядра используется версия 2.6.30.9, дополненная дополнительными драйверами и патчами. Например, в дистрибутив интегрирована поддержка файловой системы Reiser4, технологии временного засыпания tuxonice, драйверов для 3G-модемов, Bluetooth-устройств, Wifi-адаптеров (Broadcom 43xx), проприетарных драйверов для видеокарт ATI и Nvidia. Для задействования визуальных эффектов на десктопе поддерживается использование композитного менеджера Compiz. Из поставляемых в комплекте программ можно отметить: AbiWord 2.6.4, Firefox 3.0.6, Gimp 2.4.7, Gnumeric 1.8.3.

Для монтирования удаленных SMB-разделов используется утилита LinuxNIT. Для настройки оборудования в рамках проекта разработана серия автоконфигураторов, автоматически настраивающих систему во время загрузки. Инсталлятор может установить систему на дисковые разделы Ext4 и Reiser4, поддерживает режим обновления и миграции установленного Linux дистрибутива на Elive (с сохранением настроек и базы пользователей).

Из разработанных в рамках проекта приложений также можно отметить ПО Nurse, предназначенное для восстановления системы после сбоя. Nursе позволяет восстановить целостность конфигурации, провести тестирование оборудования, произвести проверку установленных пакетов, помочь в освобождении свободного места на диске.
